In March 2024, journalist Luana Costa from LaC came to visit us. Luana told our story with sensitivity and warmth. We talked about our journey back to the SOUTH and described new ways of living for us. As in Avamposto, where a new form of resistance is practised: countering the toxic narrative of the decline of inland areas, a decline that has recently been defined at the state level as inexorable and inevitable. Instead, ‘moving away from the city is not a move away from contemporary life, quite the opposite is true,’ explains Raffaele. ‘It is in inland areas that everything becomes more deeply relevant, it is where services and facilities need to be defended the most’. Villages are catalysts for contemporary issues (migration, climate crisis, education and public health), they are not marginal territories!
